Topic:
Prevention and treatment of pain in hospitalized infants, children, and teenagers: from myths and morphine to multimodal analgesia.

Objectives:
• Critically review risks & safety of analgesic under-treatment versus over-treatment in children with pain
• Evaluate myths around opioid administration in children
• Discuss 4 WHO-principles of acute pain management
• Discuss multi-modal analgesia explaining how multiple agents, interventions, rehabilitation, psychological modalities and integrative (“non-pharmacologic”) therapies act synergistically for more effective pediatric pain control with fewer side effects than a single analgesic or modality
